Open Water Aquathlon

The Open Water Aquathlon (swim and run) started in 2010 when the Farnham Sports Centre was closed for refurbishment during the mid-summer months which led to the cancellation of that season’s Aquathlon series and championships. This coincided with the opening of The Quays at Mytchett Lake for open water swimming which proved to be popular with club members.

2010 saw two events at the venue, the second of which was contested over the main 750m loop followed by an out and back 5km run along the Blackwater Valley Path. This became the catalyst for an annual event held over the same route which usually takes place during the month of August.

Distances and Course

The distances consist of a 0.75 km (0.466 mile) swim, and 5 km (3.11 mile) run.

The mass start swim takes place at The Quays, Mytchett and consists of a single loop of the 750 metre buoyed circuit. There will be full kayak support for the duration of the swim. Depending on lake temperature at the time wetsuits may be compulsory but from previous experience it is likely that wetsuits will be optional.

The start/finish and transition area is in the field to the right of the waterski pontoon.

The run is an out and back route from The Quays along the Blackwater Valley Path and turns will be marshalled. (Click here for a map of the Aquathlon run route).
